Cake Stand Project
The client for this project wanted a wooden cake stand. The specifications for this project was quite simple. To be able to accommodate a cake with the largest diameter being 300mm.
For this project, I used a piece of Chestnut which I cut the bottom and top piece from. I made the handle from an offcut of Oak from a previous project. This is because at The Spirited Makers we try and minimize the waste we create in each project.
The circular shape was cut using the bandsaw and then the shape was refined using a beltsander. A router was then used to create the roundover profiles. To increase stability and strength of the cake stand the handle was fitted into a recess in the bottom and top pieces.
A food safe finish was used for this cake stand to ensure safety for my client when she places cake on top.
